Milwaukee (where I live) is set to be flooded with Harley-Davidson motorcycle riders this Labor Day Weekend, for Harley’s big 110th anniversary celebration.
Harley-Davidson was founded in Milwaukee during the first decade of the 20th century, and was one of two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression.
We’ve been covering this huge party for several weeks at work, as my station is the official station of Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary celebration, and I have learned Harley is celebrating with a BACON MARTINI!
That reminded me of a recent article I discovered via Huffington Post, which focuses on an ALL-BACON RESTAURANT called Burke’s Bacon Bar.
The restaurant was created by Chef David Burke — who, according to the Huffington Post article, has been credited with inventing things like salmon pastrami, cheesecake lollipops and tuna tartare.
The restaurant, which opened this month in Chicago, is as close to an all-bacon restaurant as you’ll find in the country!
The restaurant’s menu includes nine mini-sandwiches, eight of which contain bacon.
The last one, Smoked Eggplant Meatball Parmesan is vegetarian by default, but OF COURSE, you can add bacon for $1.
Here’s a glimpse of the menu, which features nine “Handwiches.”
Five-spice duck (Chinese bacon, hoisin sauce, cucumber, cilantro, scallions — on a steamed bun)
Big Kahuna Spamwich (BBQ’d Spam, pineapple slaw, bacon crumbs, homemade pickels — on a King’s Hawaiian bun)
Angry Reuben (smoking goose meatery beef pastrami, spicy bacon kraut, swiss cheese — on marbled rye)
Chilly Willy (creamy shrimp salad, crisp black pepper bacon, lemon, apple, celery leaves — on a soft bun)
Banh Mi (chicken liver-bacon salad, bacon, pickled vegetables, herbs and limes — on a baguette)
Beef ‘n Cheddar (braised beef, steak sauce mayo, matilda bacon, cheddar cheese, crispy onions — on a baguette)
River North Bacon Dog (mustard, jalapeno bacon jam, onion, sport peppers, relish, celery salt, tomato — on a soft bun)
Smoked Eggplant Meatball Parmesan – VEGETARIAN (tomato, pine nuts, raisins, eggplant aioli — on a soft bun)
The nice thing about this menu is that it features the mini sandwiches — so you can feasibly try a bunch of different things!
AND, for those nearby, the restaurant offers delivery service seven days a week!
Living in Milwaukee — I MAY have to make the approx. two hour trip down to Chicago (maybe on the train!) and try out some of these tasty looking bacon infused sandwiches for myself!
